Dahab, a name which literally means gold in Arabic, lies on the coast of the Sinai Peninsula, just 120 km north of Sharm-el Sheik. The journey from the airport in Sharm El Sheikh takes around 1 hour and passes quickly while you enjoy the stunning scenery of the Sinai Mountains and desert. Dahab started life as a place visited only by the Bedouin in the summer months, for the gentle breeze and abundant supply of fish. Dahab is now a charming small town, that travellers and tourists like to visit again and again. Around the bay there are plenty of beach side cafés and restaurants for you to enjoy view and food. Dahab is not only a paradies for scuba and free divers. Also wind and kite surfers find perfect condition for their sport all year long.
Dahab is the ideal location from which to explore the magnificent natural beauty of the mountainous Sinai desert. The Sinai peninsular offers unique scenery ranging from imposing mountains, dramatic canyons, peaceful oasis, mangrove forests and weirdly wonderful landscapes. You can book a jeep or camel safari to explore this fantastic and unique place. Very famous is the St. Catherine’s Monastery, one of oldest Christian monastery still in use in the world. It also houses a rich collection of icons and precious manuscripts. Just behind the monastery rises Mount Sinai (Moses Mountain) 2285m, where, they said, God revealed the Ten Commandments to Moses. Mt Sinai is considered sacred by the Christian Jewish and Muslim religions.
