The breathing exercises in Asthanga Yoga have the main goal to clean the body on a subtle level, learn to control the breath and calm the mind. But the exercises also have a healing "effect" or can support free divers in their training or pregnant women in preparation of labor. My little manual about Pranayama is now available in English:
